UN chief Antonio Guterres on Monday defended the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) as a "lifeline of hope and dignity" and called for a surge of aid into Gaza. Guterres also said there is “growing consensus emerging in the international community” to tell Israel that a ceasefire is needed in the devastated territory. His comments came after China said it supports a new draft resolution at the UN Security Council put forward by nonpermanent members demanding an "immediate" ceasefire.
