Sirens rang out across Taiwan’s capital Taipei Tuesday, July 23, while streets emptied and people hurried to take shelter as part of civil defence drills designed to simulate a Chinese missile attack. It comes amid growing fears of a conflict with China and at the same time that Taiwan holds annual military exercises to test the country’s readiness for a Chinese assault.
